Our ATWAS classes focus on the process rather than the product of theatre. Placing emphasis on the creative expression of ideas and personal development of artistic skills, students create theatre through collaboration, developing life skills specific to theatre as an art discipline.

Summer Musical Theatre

Open to students entering grades: 5–12 fall 2022

 

July 11-23, 2022 | 9am-4pm - $425 

 

The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to have teaching artists from our Community Partner, All The World’s A Stage, as we return to our precovid Musical Theatre Camp for our 2022 summer. 

Presenting "Seussical The Musical," this production will introduce our students to the concepts of a Summer Stock Theatre production, going from audition through performance in a 2-week period.  They will then take their newfound skills and apply them to production, with a culminating performance of "Seussical The Musical Jr." Tickets will be sold separately and will be available for purchase through our Macomb Center Box Office.

This class meets once a week in our studio in Washington Township.

Our acting class exposes students to the world of live theatre. Placing focus on a specific script and utilizing theatre games, students develop fundamental acting skills and concepts that not only teach the art form, but impact self-confidence, creativity and imagination. This class gives our students the opportunity to explore theatre in a small classroom setting. For the fall session, we will be working from the script of  Disney's Moana.

This class meets once a week in our studio in Washington Township.

This class focuses on the essentials to becoming a stronger actor. Skills include building ensemble, communication, listening, giving and taking, and learning about staging, blocking and stage directions. The activities not only teach and build acting skills, but also develop social skills and confidence. Our focus is put on physical expression and verbal communication. Utilizing theatre games and improvisation, students develop drama skills and fundamental acting concepts that impact self-confidence, creativity and imagination.

THESPIAN TROUPE

Open to any 9th-12th grade high school student whose school does not offer a Thespian Troupe.

 

Fee includes membership to the International Thespian Society.

 

We will be attending Michigan Thespian Festival in December 2022 (additional cost), where students will have the chance to receive professional feedback on prepared pieces, participate in a variety of workshops, network with other students and college faculty, and receive college scholarships!

In addition to the dates listed, we plan to schedule at least one college theatre department tour.

This class aims to prepare actors for the rigorous and highly competitive college audition process, which in recent years, goes far beyond learning the words and melody of their audition pieces. Students will gain insight into material selection and build their repertoire of monologues/songs, as well as work on dynamics and script analysis of their choices. This class provides the opportunity to prepare and practice material to ensure actors are ready for the challenges of auditions, as well as gives each student personal mentoring and coaching to guide them throughout the process.

THE ART OF STAGE MAKE-UP
Grades 6-12

This class meets once a week in our studio in Washington Township.

As an introduction to theatrical makeup design principles and application techniques, this course introduces the students to aging makeup, cuts, scars and bruises; as well as delving into fantasy make-up. Students will learn how to use various theatrical products and techniques to create illusions and characters for the theater.

If you have previously taken the ATWAS Make-up class, we will work on advanced technique (during this class) on an individual basis.

This class introduces the young actor to the world of Shakespeare. Using script analysis, imagination, and creativity, every student will gain an understanding of the text and use scene study, vocal work, and acting exercises to not only understand the meaning, but the power of Shakespeare's words. Through extensive scene work, students will begin to dig beneath the surface of the text allowing them to approach, connect, and perform Shakespeare’s works with confidence.

Policies and Registration Information

1. Registration and payment for all ATWAS classes can now be done online. If you are not able to register online, please email loufazzini@mac.com.

 

2. All ATWAS Classes have a minimum and maximum class number and registrations are taken on a first come first serve basis. 

3. Payment must be included with a registration form to register for a class. 

 

4. ATWAS reserves the right to cancel or rearrange any class in accordance with enrollment. In the event of a course cancellation, you will be notified before the first class and any tuition paid will be refunded in full.

 

5. There is a cancellation fee of $20.00. Refunds will be given (minus the cancellation fee of $20.00) up to ONE WEEK before the first day of class. After that date, no refunds will be issued.

 

6. In the event of inclement weather, please check your email to find out if class has been cancelled. In the event classes are cancelled we cannot guarantee a make-up session.

7. There is a Non Sufficient Funds Check Fee of $30.00
